Selected drop-off facilities reopen to commercial garden waste

The City of Cape Town’s Urban Waste Management (UWM) Directorate has reopened Hout Bay and Prince George Drive Community Recycling Centres (CRCs) or drop-off facilities for garden waste from businesses.
After extensive engagements with the chipping contractor currently affected by fuel pricing instability challenges, garden waste chipping services for businesses have resumed with immediate effect at these facilities:
- Hout Bay drop-off
- Prince George Drive drop-off
Please note:
A limit of three loads per day will apply to businesses at these sites, after which businesses can make use of Coastal Park landfill.
Businesses are also reminded that use of drop-offs is limited to vehicles with a carrying capacity lower than 1,5 tonnes.
Tygerdal drop-off site also remains open for commercial garden waste disposal in addition to newly reopened sites and landfills, but a limit of one load per day applies.
Residents can continue to make use of all facilities for garden waste disposal, but this is again limited to one load per day.
The City continues to engage the service provider regarding the possible reopening of additional facilities for businesses. Commercial customers i.e. gardening companies and similar businesses, are assured this will be done as soon as possible.
Please also be advised that a backlog of garden waste has accumulated at various sites due to chipping constraints. As a result, access to reopened facilities will remain controlled and may be limited while clearing operations are under way. We ask customers to bear with us this week if it is necessary to redirect anyone to alternative facilities.
